Behind Bare Home: Meet Bethany from the Creative Team

Have you ever wondered how we get our product to look so effortlessly cool in photos? Well, #1—it IS cool, and #2—we have Bethany.  In this edition of Behind Bare, we learn more about our resident expert of all things photography, including why she loves photoshop. Did we mention she loves photoshop? (Hint—she does).

First Name: Bethany

Position: Post-Production Artist/Photo Editor

Please describe your job in 10 words or less.

Photoshop nerd.

What part of your job gives you the most energy?

I enjoy puzzles. A lot. It might be surprising how much of my work is just working through a jigsaw puzzle of pixels, trying to arrange them in the right order. I also enjoy learning new things, and photoshop is a bottomless well of new tricks to learn.

What is your educational background and how (if at all) do you use that knowledge today?

I received my BFA from the Art Institutes International in Minneapolis. I studied photography, and my emphasis (in the beginning) was on editorial photographer. My dream was to shoot for magazines like National Geographic. I also wanted to be the last photographer to shoot strictly in film with my own darkroom in my home. Then I was introduced to Photoshop, and never looked back. By the time I graduated, my film camera was collecting dust and my classmates were handing me their files to edit.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a fiction novelist. But then I figured out that meant I would have to learn how to sit down and write. Plus, spelling and grammar were never in my strengths category.

Describe your dream job.  The sky is the limit.

There is a part of me that would still love to travel the world and use a pen and camera to collect stories. But I have accepted that my hatred for flying might be a barrier. So, when teleportation is invented, I’m all in. But with a digital camera.

Thanks, Bethany

Thank you for sharing your insight with us! Now, if only you could work your photoshop magic to make our houses look that good in real life.

We’ll be back soon with more behind-the-scenes peeks into life at Bare Home HQ.
