The Easiest Way to Fold a Fitted Sheet - Bare Home

A Beginner-Friendly Step-by-Step Guide

If your version of folding a fitted sheet involves a few awkward folds, a quick ball-up, and a desperate shove into an overstuffed drawer—you’re not alone. But there’s an easier way to do it, and it actually keeps your linen closet neat instead of chaotic.

Before we get into how to fold a fitted sheet step by step, here are a few quick tips to make the process easier:

  • Start with a Clear, Open Space - Use a bed or table so you have room to spread the sheet out fully. A little space goes a long way in keeping the corners manageable.

  • Watch the Tutorial First - If you’re a visual learner, it helps to see the process before reading through it. Watch our quick step-by-step video below to follow along with the method

Now that you know a few tips to make folding fitted sheets easier, let's get into how to fold a fitted sheet in just a few easy steps!

How to Fold a Fitted Sheet

  1. Turn the fitted sheet inside out and place your hands into two of the corners.

  2. Bring those corners together, folding one over the other to form a pocket.

  3. Keeping one hand inside that pocket, move along the edge of the sheet to the remaining corners and tuck them together, creating another pocket.

  4. Bring your hands together again and fold one pair of corners over the other so that all four corners are stacked inside a single pocket.

  5. Hold the top corners and give the sheet a gentle shake to help it fall into place. You should now see a loose L shape with the elastic edge facing you.

  6. Lay the sheet on a flat surface. Using the corner as a guide, fold in the outer edges so they are mostly straight.

  7. Fold one side inward about one third of the way across.

  8. Fold the opposite side over that section, aligning the edges neatly.

  9. Smooth out any wrinkles or bunching.

  10. Fold the sheet into quarters if it is king size, or into thirds for smaller sizes.

  11. For a king sheet, fold the bottom up, then the top down, and finally fold in half to create clean edges.

  12. Finished — you should have a compact rectangle with the elastic, seams, and corners tucked neatly inside.
